Cliff Patton and Primordial Percussion

PRIMORDIAL PERCUSSION - Primordial (the beginning) Percussion (two objects that strike together and produce sound).
As the name implies, the very first sound, this is a concept that all people can relate too.  At some point in our lives all of us have been touched by sound and music. In fact if we consider the idea futher we will realize that fundamentally we are all rhythm, that everything in the universe is vibrating and pulsing to sound/movement/rhythm.
Therefore our company name symbolizes this idea. It is my belief that all people unconsciouslly understand this and have deep connections to sound. Maybe this is why we can connect so easily to the beating of the drums both privately and in group settings.  The mission of Primordial Percussion is to share this joyful primordial adeae knowledge and rhythms of the drum with as many people as possible. Hopefully they will realize the deep importance and joy such actions and awareness can bring.  I believe that it is very healthy for people to take part in these ancient activities.  New scientific evidence is proving this on many levels and out in the field we have seen it countless times. Drumming has a very positive effect on all people. Young and old, healthy or sick, able or disabled, drumming truely is for everyone. Primordial Percussion has been built upon this philosophy and our programs and products are the means and the way for people to get involved.

Cliff Patton, Stratford, Ontario 2009

History.

Cliff Patton established Primordial Percussion in the year 2001.  The first few years of growth were dedicated to manufacturing hand drums for music and gift stores across Southern Ontario.  Currently I have scaled my manufacturing business down and focus mainly on refinishing quality drum shells and repairs.  2009 will feature an exciting new line of ashiko and frame drums all made right here in Canada.  The rest of my drums are now made in Ghana, West Africa by a small family run business. There are no other middlemen and all our sales directly help small business industry in this ThirdWorld country.  I enjoy supporting Gabriel and his family. The quality and service he has offered me is the very best. You can see it in all of my Ghanian djembes. I also have some really great business relations out of Thailand and Indonesia who supply me with small percussion instruments and some of our drum shells.

In 2002 I established a community drumcircle in London, Ontario at the Theosophy Centre building. These sessions became very popular and soon outgrew that location, so a designated drumming room was rented at a Community Building on Dundas St. Along with family and friends I decorated, found chairs and stocked the place full of loaner drums.  This drum circle eventually got tagged with the name "Temple Of Rhythm".  Many many people attended those special magical sessions, sometimes having as many as 75 in the room at once. Many friendships and rhythms where initiated over the two years that the "Temple Of Rhythm" was opened.

In the year 2003 I started recieving requests for private drum circle events such as parties, nursing homes and schools. Since then I have hosted hundreds of drumcircles at places like staff parties, retreats, teambuilding events, schools, festivals, outdoor events and my speciality, nursing homes and special needs facilities. Drum circles have now become 75% of my business and continues to grow successfully.

In 2003 I started attending festivals across Ontario.  At many of these festivals we would set-up a public drumcircle area beside our booth. We always offer many fine percussion and drum products for those wishing to get more involved.  At this point we have hundreds of different products available. See my products page for a sample of some of these fine musical instruments and gift ideas.
